Docs/Store Setup

Custom Domain

Every store gets a free {slug}.copperanvil.co subdomain. On the Pro plan you can also connect a domain you own — like shop.yourbrand.com — so customers never see our branding in the URL bar.

Before you start

  • You're on the Pro plan.
  • You own the domain and have access to its DNS settings (usually through your registrar — GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.).
  • You've decided whether you want an apex domain (yourbrand.com) or a subdomain (shop.yourbrand.com). Subdomains are simpler to set up and recommended unless you're running your whole site on Copper Anvil.

Connecting the domain

  1. Go to Store Settings.
  2. In the Custom Domain section, enter the exact hostname you want to use and save.
  3. Copper Anvil will show you one or two DNS records to add at your registrar:
    • CNAME record for subdomains, pointing to our edge hostname.
    • A/ALIAS records for apex domains.
  4. Add the records at your registrar. Changes typically propagate in 5–30 minutes, but can take up to 24 hours.
  5. Come back to Store Settings and click Verify. Once DNS checks pass, we issue a free TLS certificate automatically.

While you wait

Your subdomain store at {slug}.copperanvil.co keeps working the whole time. When the custom domain goes live, both URLs serve the same store and the subdomain auto-redirects.

Switching domains later

You can change or remove your custom domain at any time. Remove it from Store Settings first, then update or delete the DNS records at your registrar. The subdomain version always remains available as a fallback.
